Kilele Toastmasters Club is domiciled in Nyeri town. The home town of this club is nestled between mountain peaks. Muhoya hill and Nyandarua (Aberdares) mountain ranges to the West, Mount Kenya to North-East and Mukurweini Hill to the South. The name is therefore not only literal it is also the clubs vision of scaling the heights of excellence by providing a platform for its members to realise their full potential!

Kilele Toastmasters Club is in area 4 of Toastmasters District 114.

Kilele was a self-sponsored club. The start-up was entirely based on mutual friends who shared the vision of growing as better leaders and communicators. It all started as a coffee challenge! Caroline’s employer, Jubilee Insurance, had sponsored some of its employees to Downtown Toastmasters Club with a view to building capacity in order to start a corporate club. Prior and thereafter, Jubilee kept sending catchy email invites sensitising its employees to join the upcoming Toastmasters Club within the organisation. This heavily appealed to Caroline.
“These are some of the things that make me wish I was working in Nairobi”, she lamented to Andrew.
On his part, Andrew had a distant memory of Toastmasters emanating from a past invitation to Kwanza Kenya Toastmasters club by a friend. Then newly posted to Nyeri as a Trade Manager with Sameer Africa, he had also encountered the concept in a book championing for sales excellence, titled "Sales Talk" by Len Serafino.

It was with this background that he suggested they start a club in Nyeri, despite none having any prior experience with Toastmasters. Relying heavily on the Internet, they went to work.
Andrew in technical, Caroline in marketing, the dual embarked on a passionate hunting and fishing mission in search of like-minded professional. The initial stages were etched with trials and errors, aiming higher with each miss! With time they held their first meeting attended by among others Mwangi Mugo, Andrew Moseti, Guchu Ndung'u, Carol Kanyi, Duncan Mbuthia and Mwangi Chege.

Charter docs
On 29th June 2017, the club submitted their application to organise a club to Toastmasters International. It was approved the following month in July. They were now recognised as a prospective Club. The hunt for 20 members, the requisite number for a charter started in earnest. On the 1st of February,2018 received its Charter.

Harry Karanja, DTM, then club growth director of Territorial Council of East Africa, offered tremendous mentorship to the club and later brought in Gladys Muhunyo who was later nominated as the Area Director and later Club Growth Director. Her contribution was notable alongside that of Anthony Wang’ondu and Stacy Alugo the then Division Director and Area 4 Director respectively.

The Club is versatile and takes pride in a rich camaraderie built of flamboyant members drawn from diverse professions from both the public and private sectors. Doctors, journalists, bankers, insurance consultants, clergy, entrepreneurs, lecturers, brand strategists, communicators, ICT experts, accountants, bankers, hoteliers just but to mention a few. Kilele club moments are always scintillating!

Barely 3 months after the charter, the Club produced members who represented Area 4 at the East African Championship of Public Speaking and Humorous Speech Contest.
We meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month from 6. 00 pm to 8.00pm at Alexandria Hall, White Rhino Hotel at the heart of Nyeri Town.

Kilele Toastmasters is an icon of hope. A story carved out of courage, teamwork, resilience & hard work. If you aspire to leave a trail as a leader, then this is the perfect hub! A club of trailblazers!
